Announcing the occasional video series “What is the 21st century animal rescue first responder?” starting this Wednesday November 1st 2023. Today. In Read All About It! No. 12 I said “It’s a place for me to express my thoughts and opinions on what I think the animal rescue first responder should look like in the 21st century.” What do I mean by “…look like…”? It’s not about fashion or hairstyles. It’s about how I envision a 21st century animal rescue first responder in terms of training, skills, equipment, and professionalism.
The kind of training I believe an individual needs to properly address the wide and varied types of incidents that one would respond to. The skillset that is needed to properly handle domestic, exotic and wildlife species. The availability of personal protective equipment, other tools and equipment that are necessary to perform the task that are expected. Along with a high level of training and skills should come a high level of professionalism. I want to see animal rescue first responders rise to the same technical level of many of the fire departments technical rescue teams in both skills and pay.
The series will be in video format. The blog post will include a brief description of the content along with the announcement for that particular video. As of this posting these videos won’t have a regular schedule. They’ll be posted on Wednesdays whenever I have the motivation to make them. Usually the motivation is seeing an incident on video, photographs, a news story or something on social media. Let me know what you think.
