Animal Rescue- A Photographic History Vol. 1 No. 4

AP Wirephoto April 23, 1974

Number 4 is a more recent image. It’s an AP Wirephoto dated April 23, 1974. “Flooded conditions on the Sabine River Monday stranded two calves owned by Tommy Banks of Greenville, Tex.(bottom of photo in boat). Banks and Paul Marion of Commerce, Tex.,(wearing straw hat), attempted to rescue the calves, but they failed and the animals were swept downstream. The boat capsized just after the picture was taken. Banks was rescued downstream and Marion was rescued at the bridge. The flooding occurred after five inches of rain hit Greenville Sunday.”
