Animal Rescue- A Photographic History

Announcement!

Announcing our new video series. The series Animal Rescue- A Photographic History hosted by our founder and rescue chief Big Boss features original vintage photographs from news organizations from Canada, United Kingdom and the United States. Some as early as the 1930’s.

A photograph from an animal rescue during a 1947 flood in Hialeah Florida started it all. Big Boss says- “I stumbled across this old photograph of guys up to their knees in water loading rabbits into the back of a truck as Hialeah was flooding. I couldn’t believe a photo that old was still around that featured an animal rescue in progress. This lead to a search for more.”

A search was launched for more of those rare photographs. Currently there are a total of 26 images in the growing photo album. “We found more images of animal rescues some of them dating back as the early 1930’s. Some from as far away as the UK. They were kind of expensive and out of the price range of HEAR’s budget. The photos were shown to our long time supporter Josie Beug, DVM from 5 Element Animal Wellness. She agreed they were historical in nature and needed to be preserved. Dr. Beug underwrote the photographs and their preservation.” says Big Boss

Photo that launched the collection

All of the photographs are being preserved in an acid free photo album designed for long term storage that is kept in a safe. Sometime in the future copies of these images will be placed on display in our operations base for public viewing. Currently Big Boss is recording videos that will contain reading of the original text placed on the back of the images by the printing organization, analysis of the rescue and commentary how the incidents would be approached today. Big Boss says- “These images are a testament to the love humans have for animals and the undeniable human animal bond.”

Videos will be posted monthly on the first and third Thursday starting June 1, 2023. Announcement of the posting will be made here on this websites blog. The blog will contain the original text, the image and YouTube video.
